7th Grade RELIGION

Mrs. Whetham
Welcome to 7th Grade Religion:
‘Walk as Children of Light’
our 2023-24 school theme.

No matter the topic we are covering at the time, the emphasis in religion class is on building a relationship with God. We learn to pray in a variety of ways, read and act out scripture stories, enjoy appropriate video clips, watercolor religious symbols, and at times, we may sing and dance!

We follow the standards given in the archdiocesan religion curriculum, considering each topic through the lens of the New Testament. Our basic 7th grade units of study include:

 The Mass

 The Afterlife

Mary as Mother of God and model disciple

 The Liturgical Year

 Sacraments and sacramentals

 Morality and Virtues

Catholic Social Teaching and Works of Mercy

 New Testament Saints

The Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary

 The Church

An important 7th Grade religion emphasis is learning to be a Missionary Disciple. We team with the Archdiocesan Missionary Discipleship Institute   and research ways we can reach out and bring God’s love to those on the margins in our modern world.  We will decide on a class missionary response, student-driven and teacher-guided, in the Spring of 2024.

May this year in religion class nourish and deepen the gift of faith we have been given.

All classwork is posted weekly in Google Classroom.

Mrs. Whetham is passionate about sharing faith.  She invites students to deepen their relationship with God, presenting truth and leaving students free to choose. She encourages students to grapple with challenging questions, and employs a variety of learning strategies to ensure that every class is both informative and engaging. Originally from Australia, she has taught at Holy Rosary School for 30 years, switching midway from teaching the Queen’s English to the Pope’s religion 🙂 Margaret is committed to her own spiritual growth and above all strives to be an authentic Catholic disciple of Jesus Christ. It is her delight and privilege to share faith with 7th and 8th graders at Holy Rosary School.
