Welcome to 8th Grade Religion! Walk as children of Light. 2023-24 school theme.
In our religion classes, the emphasis is on building a relationship with the God who loves us. In 8th grade, we do this through the lens of Church History. It is an exciting ride! We study transformative events and movements through the ages and inspirational Saints from different periods. We learn of God’s undying presence in the Church despite our failings over the centuries. Some of our basic units include
The Age of the Martyrs
Church Fathers and Monasticism
Crusades and the Renaissance Church
The Protestant Reformation
The Nature of the Church
Church Councils through the ages
Morality and Virtues
Sacraments and sacramentals
The Liturgical Year
Forms of Prayer
Each topic opens up a different insight into God’s love for the world, and for each one of us as His Beloved. We practice different ways of praying in class, we read scripture, we grapple with hard questions, we hear the Truth that Jesus came to bring. Students express their learning in creative projects ranging from watercolors to google slides. We let God touch our souls through music and art.
May this year of religion class help us to nourish and deepen the gift of faith we have been given.
All religion topics and assignments are posted weekly in Google Classroom.
