Yearbook Elective

Yearbook Elective 2023- 2024

Trimester 2  (Dec – March)

Description:  Students will learn the skills of graphic/page design to create, publish and sell the Holy Rosary School yearbook.  Students will understand the importance of creating a product of high quality using the web-based software from Herff-Jones. 

Requirements:  Students can expect to participate in the following:

  1. Analyzing previous yearbooks and creating the theme and ladder for this year’s book.
  2. Learning photography skills and techniques for editing photos. Students will learn skills for analyzing photos that are effective and appropriate for the yearbook. Students may be asked to take some pictures (with teacher permission only.)
  3. Learning graphic and page design using eDesign software to creatively produce the final product of the school yearbook.  Students will review skills about Canva and Comic Life to incorporate original artwork into the yearbook. Students will learn the process of editing a large publication and preparing it to send to the yearbook publishing plant.
  4. Interviewing and working with members of the school community to gather information and to market the sales of the yearbook.  Students will work regularly with classroom teachers and school students to take pictures and survey them for ideas for the yearbook.
  5. Using appropriate writing techniques for a yearbook publication.
  6. Analyzing and critiquing peer work using constructive and professional feedback.
  7. Collaborating with other students to create layouts and make decisions.
  8. Editing his/her yearbook pages (and other students’ work) for details and areas that need revision.
  9. Discussing and voting on classroom expectations, including those that involve perseverance during a long-range task. 
  10. Using technology and devices with care and respect. Following all classroom / school rules as a model member of the yearbook staff.
